State Film Office moving to SFUAD campus

The New Mexico Film Office is moving to the Santa Fe University of Art and Design campus.

Director Lisa Strout said Tuesday she expects the move from the Film Office's Montezuma Avenue location adjoining the Santa Fe Railyard to be completed by the end of the week.

The for-profit university, on land purchased by the city of Santa Fe from the former College of Santa Fe and leased to Laureate Education Inc., offered the film office the opportunity to lease vacant office space for five years at $1 a year, the announcement said.

Volunteers from the film industry are helping with the move to the campus, which Strout said "will be a great fit with the school's focus on arts and creativity."

The school offers a moving-image arts program and is home to Garson Studios, a 32,000-square-foot sound stage facility for motion picture production, and The Screen, a 170-seat cinema.

The Film Office serves the film industry, assisting with such activities as location searches, and supports up-and-coming local filmmakers.
