INTERN DESCRIPTIONS

PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT INTERN

During the course of the semester, the intern will learn many aspects of what takes place in a local TV station's Production Department.  Normally the Production department's main goal is to produce local TV commercials for local clients.  The intern will learn not only the production part (writing, shooting and editing), but how to work with the clients, communicate with the internal sales team (and other departments), schedule the different stages of the production and what to do with the commercial once it's produced.  During the early part of the semester, the intern will shadow the Production Manager and attend client creative meetings, and help come up with script concepts based on the time frame presented, and the budget provided.  Later, the intern will take on parts of the production on their own, from logging footage, to shooting some B-roll, and writing the script.  By the end of the internship, it's our goal to have the intern leave with a few fully produced 30-second commercials for their reel that he/she has completely produced on their own that actually made it on the air, as well as a good understanding of how a local TV station runs and what each department does.

PROMOTION DEPARTMENT INTERN

During the course of the semester, the intern will learn many aspects of what takes place in a local TV station's Promotion Department.  In most cases, the focus will be the on-air elements that are produced.  Many of the duties will be designed to teach the intern what the common Promo Producer does at a Local TV station (non-news themed).  The main purpose of a Promo Producer at the TV stations within our company is to produce on-air promos that generate viewer interest in our programming (clever ad campaigns, etc) and to produce on-air promos that tie-in with our client needs (contest giveaways, etc).  These duties start off with learning how to "tag" supplied on-air promos and prepare them for broadcast.  Later, the intern will have the opportunity to create a few promos from scratch.  This will include writing the script, shooting some footage, pulling clips from the promoted TV shows, and using the established brand along with the brand elements to edit a final broadcast quality on-air spot.  Other duties could include scheduling the promos on the daily on-air log, creating website elements, outdoor/print ads, staffing live promotion events, etc.  By the end of the internship, it's the goal to have the intern leave with a few on-air promos for their reel that he/she has completely produced that have been on the air, as well as a good understanding of how a local TV station runs and what each department does.
