Bioscience research levels and businesses in New Mexico have grown steadily for nearly a decade.  While challenges remain, the sector now employs nearly 7,000 New Mexicans, even in these economic times.  Join us as Peter Rachor, former president of New Mexico Bio, and Director of Venture Development at STC.UNM, reviews the results of an industry study which he completed late last year, and some of the opportunities it presents for the future.

Peter Rachor is a technology business consultant, technology entrepreneurship instructor, and entrepreneur with a broad background in technology, including and biotechnology, web, and telecom. Previously, he was Director, Venture Development at the University of New Mexico's Science & Technology Corporation (STC), responsible for creating start-up enterprises and joint ventures from technologies developed through research.  He also worked with Los Alamos National Laboratory, assisting inventors, entrepreneurs and technology transfer staff in patent licensing, market assessment, and venture formation.  He helped to launch 5 life sciences spin outs from UNM & LANL.

In 2008, Rachor moved to Portland, Oregon where he is now directing a program in life science commercialization for the University of Portland, and its partner Oregon Health & Science University.  He has also recently joined the Board of the Oregon Bioscience Association.

Mr. Rachor has previously founded three technology ventures in the telecom and web industries, and also held senior management positions with Deloitte & Touche, Lucent Technologies, British Telecom, and Verizon Communications.

Peter holds a degree in Finance from Michigan State University.  He has been active on the boards of many industry, community service, and leadership organizations.  He frequently serves as a mentor, coach or advisor to early stage companies, entrepreneurs, students, university faculty and scientists.
